DeKalb ninth- and 10th-grade girls who want to improve their leadership skills can apply for the 100 Black Women Decatur/DeKalb’s next Legacy Program.
The eight-month program, which begins in September, is designed to establish an enhanced sense of self-esteem and personal motivation among young African-American women, to inspire them to develop the necessary skills to to take leadership roles in politics, civic affairs, business, entrepreneurship, education, health and medicine, religion, and international affairs. Participants are paired with members of the chapter, who mentor them.
The Legacy Program will meet at DeVry University’s Decatur campus every third Saturday.
Eligible applicants must live in DeKalb County or attend a high school in DeKalb County. They must also commit to participate in the program until their senior year of high school.
Interested parents and students must attend a mandatory pre-application meeting on Aug. 18 in the meeting room at the Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library, 2861 Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
