At 12:30 p.m., the DeKalb NAACP’s 11th annual parade will go down Snapfinger Road, which was designated Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway by the Georgia General Assembly in honor of the late civil rights leader.
Almost simultaneously, at 1 p.m., the National Martin Luther King Day March and Rally will proceed down Auburn Avenue in Atlanta.
In Decatur, a number of school marching bands, churches, community associations and elected officials will participate in the NAACP parade, which has a new route this year. The civil rights organization relocated the parade from Stone Mountain to Snapfinger, which was designated in King’s honor this year.
The parade will go from the Ray of Hope Church in Decatur to Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Lithonia.
Paraders should line up at 10:30 a.m. in the church’s parking lot. There will be a rally at the school after the parade.
The Atlanta parade will go from the intersection of Peachtree and Baker streets to the King Center on Auburn Avenue.
