Keith T. Parker, MARTA’s new CEO and general manager, will speak to DeKalb business people on Jan. 23 about the transit authority’s 2013 agenda and other initiatives.

The speech will kick off the DeKalb Chamber’s Executive Speaker Series, formerly known as First Monday Lunch.

It takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Perimeter, 4386 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Atlanta. Tickets purchased by Jan. 18 are $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Parker took the helm of the nation’s ninth-largest transit system, which includes heavy rail, bus and paratransit services, on Dec. 10.

Under his leadership, the authority is focused on working with employees, customers, transit stakeholders and the community to provide safe, efficient and high-quality transit services to the Atlanta region.

MARTA provides nearly 420,000 passenger boardings a day.

Parker was most recently president and CEO of VIA transit in San Antonio. He signed a five-year contract with MARTA that includes a $320,000 base salary with automatic, one-year renewable options. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s in urban and regional planning, and an M.B.A.

Rail Stations with locked rest rooms is just stupid ! What are passengers to do ? How stupid is that ?

Bus Supervision at The Five Points Station is an absolute joke ! MARTA police leaning on rails all day long talking on their cell phones ain't getting the job done either ! Plain Clothes MARTA Police patrolling the trains and stations ? I have never seen a Plain Clothes MARTA Police Officer speak up and prevent a crime on MARTA trains or stations since forever.

Perhaps one out of ten wheelchair riders is strapped in properly. Most wheelchair riders are not strapped in at all. Many of these wheelchairs weigh more than three hundred pounds.

And PANTS ON THE GROUND on MARTA trains and buses is just filthy nasty. What is with The Leadership of Atlanta, Fulton and DeKalb Counties and MARTA on this filthy nasty pants on the ground ?

The previous GM, Dr Beverly Scott gutted Safety, Training and Supervision of MARTA Train and Bus Operators.

I drove a MARTA bus for ten years 1980-1990 = Ten Year Safe Driver Award. Speaking with a school friend at a reunion yesterday who just retired with FORTY years of service at MARTA, we are amazed that DR Scott found another job ?

So far the only thing MARTA GM Parker is talking is " PRIVITIZATION " = Might want to look at some of the less than smart Managers in Bus Operations and other departments.
