The South Precinct has moved a step closer to its new home near the Gallery of South DeKalb with the approval of a contract for site development.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved the contract, not to exceed $680,125, on Oct. 9.

The South Precinct will relocate from 1816 Candler Road to the old Toys “R” Us facility at 2842 H.F. Shepherd Drive.

District 3 Commissioner Larry Johnson said the new location offers elbowroom for police operations.

“The relocation of the precinct will give the officers more space and will be even more accessible to the community,” he said.

The contract went to Litchy Commercial Construction of Newnan.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
