DeKalb residents can dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge at the DeKalb Central Transfer Station in Decatur on Oct. 20.

The fourth hazardous waste collection takes place from 8 a.m. to noon at the station at 3720 Leroy Scott Drive.

It is sponsored by Keep DeKalb Beautiful, the DeKalb Sanitation Division and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc.

Household hazardous waste includes aerosols, mercury, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, automotive products, fluorescent bulbs, photo chemicals, hobby and artist supplies, paint and paint-related products, and cleaners and swimming pool chemicals.

The county is encouraging residents to take advantage of this opportunity to clear their homes of these items, which should not be mixed with regular trash and can be potentially harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly.

Excluded items include biohazardous/biomedical waste, agricultural waste, ammunition, explosives, pharmaceuticals, radioactive materials, and nonhazardous waste.

IDs are required and early arrival is recommended. Residents are limited to 10 gallons of paint per vehicle. No commercial vehicles will be allowed.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Keep DeKalb Beautiful at kdb@dekalbcountyga.gov or 404-371-2654.

Ugly Ugly Ugly Rat Infested South DeKalb while Gannon n Johnson enjoy free meals on the Backs of DeKalb's Tax Paying Citizens !

Home values plumet while Code Enforcement evidently does not have a clue or the Leadership to get the job done !

Perhaps Code Enforcement Duty should be moved to the Sheriff's Dept as it is an absolute failure with The DeKalb Police Dept !
