Oct. 9 is deadline to register to vote in Nov. 6 election runoff

Unregistered DeKalb residents who want to vote in the Nov. 6 general and presidential election and the Dec. 4 runoff election have until Oct. 9 to register to vote.

A registered voter must be a citizen of the United States, a legal resident of Georgia, at least 18 years old, not be serving a sentence for a conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude, and have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge.

To register for the first time in Georgia, citizens must provide any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by the county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services; a valid employee photo ID from any U.S. state, county, city, board, authority or entity of this state; a Georgia driver’s license, even if expired; a valid U.S. passport; U.S. military or tribal photo ID; a copy of a current utility bill; bank statement; government check; paycheck; or any other government document that shows the individual’s name and address.
