DeKalb seniors and their families can learn more about the “Village” concept that promotes aging in place at an Aug. 30 meeting at the Maloof Auditorium in Decatur.

The DeKalb Human and Community Development Department Office of Senior Affairs is hosting the session, which starts at 6:30 p.m. It will introduce the Village, a grass-roots, membership and consumer-driven organization that encourages seniors to continue to live in their community and remain independent.

It coordinates programs, services and volunteers to assist members toward the goal of aging in place. The fee-based membership network may include home helpers, health and wellness services, and a variety of transportation options.

DeKalb County received grant funding from the state of Georgia for a feasibility study for the program.

The Maloof Auditorium is at 1300 Commerce Drive. For more information, contact Amy Hsu at 404-790-5015.
