East metro residents can participate in the Unity Rally’s eight-week Get Fit – Weight Loss Challenge that kicks off June 23 at LA Fitness of Conyers.

The challenge is open to residents of Rockdale and DeKalb, Henry and Newton and free to the first 200 who register.

Participants will receive eight Saturday seminars with health care professionals who will provide information for developing and keeping a healthy body; eight Saturday aerobic workouts facilitated by certified and licensed fitness trainers; before-and-after blood pressure and glucose level screenings; and an eight-week gym membership with LA Fitness offered by additional challenge sponsors.

Free slots are still available.

Richard A. Oden, Rockdale County’s chairman and CEO, said that good health is very important because when you feel good, you tend to function at your best.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the residents of Rockdale County to focus on their personal physical health,” Oden said.

He has endorsed and is taking part in Get Active Rockdale, a program for Rockdale County employees that is focused on overall better health through diet and exercise.

Registration continues through June 21 at LA Fitness, 1618 Highway 138 in Conyers.
