Low-income families may be eligible to receive rental assistance through an agreement between DeKalb County and Nicholas House Inc.

The contract provides $250,970 to administer a tenant-based rental assistance program, which will help qualified DeKalb residents with rental assistance, security and utility deposits. Eligible residents must be at or below 80 percent of Area Median Income and meet other requirements. The Atlanta Area Median Family Income is $69,300, according to the DeKalb County Community Development Department.

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis said the county-funded program is part of an overall effort to help the neediest families.

“We will be continuing our efforts to engage our partners in the federal government to fund worthy programs like this one,” Ellis said in a May 22 statement.
