Kelly Lake Elementary students are lugging LL Bean backpacks, new notebooks and pencils compliments of the engineers from Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc.

Employees of the Atlanta firm presented the new school supplies to the school's nearly 400 students on Aug. 22. They also donated electronic pencil sharpeners, crayons, tablets, dry erase markers, box tissue, copy paper and first aid supplies for teachers to use in the classroom.

The donation was organized through Kimley-Horn's angel network, which began supplying needy families with holiday gifts two and a half years ago.

Tony Stewart, a Kimley-Horn information technology manager, initiated the backpack drive, which was funded by employee donations.

The engineers also gave fifth-graders a brief presentation on road models, forensic engineering and landscape architecture.
