The impact of the digital age and longevity will be discussed by authors Aug. 7 and Aug. 9 during the August Festival of Writers at the Decatur Library.

On Aug. 7, Emory University English professor Mark Bauerlien will discuss his controversial new book, “The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future” at 7:15 p.m.

Bauerlien, who has been at Emory since 1989, discusses how the digital age has made young people less aware of the world around them and how they have experienced a collective loss of context and history.

On Aug. 9 at 2 p.m., Dr. Sanjay Gupta, an Emory University neurosurgeon and CNN’s senior medical correspondent, will discuss his new book, “Chasing Life: New Discoveries in the Search for Immortality to Help You Age Less Today.”

The book takes a revealing look at the latest research into longevity with a goal of helping people live longer and better. The book touches on how eating the right type of food is a successful element in aging well, along with exercise for the body and brain.

The library is at 215 Sycamore St., Decatur. For more information, visit www.georgiacenterforthebook.org, www.dekalblibrary.org or call 404-370-8450, ext. 2225.
