Finding creative ways to keep kids technologically savvy has paid off in a big way for DeKalb County Schools.

DeKalb was one of eight school districts nationwide - the only one in Georgia - to receive a $100,000 Best Buy Teach Award.

The award honors schools districts in their efforts to engage students through exceptional, creative use of interactive technology. The district became eligible for the award in February 2008, when DeKalb Elementary School of the Arts was one of 50 schools nationwide that received a $10,000 Teach Award from Best Buy.

The DeKalb system was selected based on the strength of its existing programs and plans to expand those programs in coming years. It will use the award to purchase additional technology to enhance current and future classroom curricula.
