2007 will go down in history as a year full of fights and protests.

Activists and residents stayed on the warpath all year, marching and picketing for pedestrian safety, cash-strapped Grady Hospital and the civil rights of Genarlow Wilson and the "Jena 6" students in Louisiana. They also fought against the proposed city of Dunwoody.

Other noteworthy events included Congressman Hank Johnson taking the oath of office in Washington, the Caribbean Carnival and Parade in Stone Mountain; Candler Road Streetscape completion; the opening of a time capsule at the old Avondale Mall; and the grand opening of a 12-screen cinema at the Gallery at South DeKalb.
