Callaway Gardens retreat offers a Mother

Mothers can celebrate Mother's Day all weekend long at the "Mother of Pearl Retreat 2005" at Callaway Gardens on May 6-8.

The three-day retreat, which is hosted by Gavin Ministries, is designed for indiviualds who are seeking deeper revelations from God, and for the woman who will no longer tolerate mediocrity in her life.

The entire family is welcome and the retreat will consist of powerful, spirit-filled workshops, a social, a walk with Jesus, praise dance, brunch, vendors, a fashion show, games, contests and more.

Author Yvette Gavin will also be signing her latest book, "What to Do After You Say, I Do."

The cost of the retreat is $95 per person and does not include hotel accommodations or transportation to Callaway Gardens, located 60 miles southwest of Atlanta in Pine Mountain.

Steen Miles is featured speaker

State Sen. Steen Miles, who represents Senate District 43 and is also an ordained minister, will be the featured speaker at the 8 a.m. service at First St. Paul AME Church's annual Women's Day Celebration on May 8.

Dr. Pam DeVeaux, supervisor of the Sixth Episcopal District Church of the AME Church, will speak at the 11 a.m. service.

The theme for the celebration is "Faithful Sister's Phenomenal Women."

Cheerleading ministry

Cheerleading coaches and young ladies, ages 5 to 14, can sign up for the Cheerleading Ministry at Ray of Hope Christian Church every Sunday between May 1 and Aug. 21 after the 10 a.m. service at the church.

City of Refuge revival

The City of Refuge Christian Church will hold a two-day revival on June 2-3. The Rev. Ronnie C. White Sr., the church's pastor, will bring the message at the 7:30 p.m. service on both days.
