Stone Mountain High's Stacy Mulbah and Jerry Latimer of M.L. King Jr. High School are recipients of the Buffalo Soldiers Greater Atlanta Chapter, 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association Scholarship for 2005.

Each received a $1,000 scholarship for college expenses. Applicants had to prove financial need, have good grades and write an essay about the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments.

Stacy plans to study nursing and Jerry wants to be a lawyer/sports agent and hotelier.

The recipients were honored at the chapter's 2005 scholarship award banquet on March 26 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Kids to create own comics

Youth ages 12 to 17 years old who want to unleash their own comic book characters can learn how at an April 2 workshop at the Decatur Library.

Terminus Media is hosting the free panel and workshop on learning to draw and write professional comic books from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Topics covered include plot development, script writing, story layout, penciling, inking, lettering, and computer coloring.

Participants' works will be published in an upcoming issue of Terminus Media's Evolution series of comics. Space is limited to 30 participants. To register, call Sadie Mattox at 404-508-7180.

Register among the best

Anthony Register, a Lakeside High 2001 graduate and Lithonia resident, is a 2005 All-Conference player at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.

Register led his team in points, and ranked second in the league with a 16.1 points per game scoring average. He also led the team with 38 three-point field goals, averaged 3.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Register scored in double figures in 26 games, including all 20 Atlantic Sun games and the last 21 games in a row. A 22-point performance in Stetson's 56-52 win over the University of Georgia last December tabbed him as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week. It is Register's first all-conference selection, and his second time as a second-team selection. He has also been chosen to represent Stetson at the NCAA leadership conference held in Atlanta.

Register is attending Stetson University on an athletic scholarship, and has made the honor roll every year. His mother, Kathy, lives in Lithonia and his father, Willie, lives in Decatur.
