Arts lovers to mix, mingle and raise funds

The Randy Skinner Duo will provide entertainment at an evening celebrating the arts sponsored by the DeKalb Council for the Arts and state Rep. Stephanie Stuckey Benfield on March 18.

The 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. event will be at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road in Atlanta.

Art lovers and supporters can celebrate the arts, meet and mingle with artists and friends at a mini-smorgasbord of artistic offerings, live music, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, and fun.

Diva to headline hat parade

Radio personality Sasha the Diva will be taking hat lovers through their steps during the Mall at Stonecrest's hat parade on March 20.

"Celebrate the Hat — A Symbol of Prosperity" will feature mall shoppers and South DeKalb residents modeling their church and Easter hats.

Sasha, who is the daytime deejay on WALR Kiss 104.1, will emcee the parade.

Women will compete for a $500 shopping spree at the mall and other prizes.

There will also be a kids' hat fashion show for girls to show off their Easter bonnets for a chance to win shopping sprees to Gap Kids and Children's Place. Story of death row survivors

"The Exonerated," a drama/documentary that shares the stories of six innocent survivors of death row, opened Monday at the Horizon Theater.

The production, which ran off-Broadway for more than 18 months, includes talk-back sessions after the performances. Tickets are $15 and show times are 8 p.m. March 20-22 and 27-29. Book tickets at 404-432-9847 or at www.jackintheblackbox.org.

Arts festival seek participants

Registration is now under way for visual artists and vendors who want to participate in the second annual Stonecrest Arts Festival set for July 15-17 at the Mall at Stonecrest.

The festival will also include performances by jazz, gospel, R&B, reggae and spoken word artists as well as African dance groups, a Kids Artist-for-a-Day Corner, and an African Fashion show.

Film festival deadline looms

April 1 is the deadline to submit entries for the Decatur Film Festival, to be held on May 26 and 27 at the Holiday Inn Decatur. The film festival, which runs in conjunction with the Decatur Arts Festival, offers filmmakers a venue in which to screen their films before a critical audience of other filmmakers, artists and community members.
