In an email statement by Dekalb Commissioner Lee May dated October 12, 2011expressing outraged over actions by the Atlanta Regional Roundtable’s decision to not fully fund the proposed rail for South Dekalb is in my view outrageously comical.
My Blog commentary “We Must Vote No In November For The 1 Cent Tax” addressed this issue of our elected and civic leaders having not planned since 1996 to have the I-20 rail included in future transportation plans is proof by the ARC rejecting an I-20 rail inclusion for South East Dekalb.
There has never been in this writers view a plan to provide rail for residents of South East Dekalb. Mr. Lee May and the other commissioners who now express outrage can show their political leadership by working with the other nine counties to defeat the referendum in this November’s election.
As this writer has stated the lack of political leadership from South East Dekalb is evident by the fact our transportation needs were not included today in a process which began back in 1996.
To my knowledge there has been no visible call to action by Mr. May or any of the other board of commissioners to rally opposition with the other 9 counties to opposed the November 1 Cent Tax increase for transportation.
In addition…should such an effort to opposed the current A.R.C. 2040 transportation plan be successful this November, the political and civic leaders of Dekalb and the others counties must have an alternate plan to put on the table which would reflect the transportation need and growth of the region.
This writer also believes it to be outrageously comical for Mr. May to comment “Mr. Ellis was swayed by special corporate interest, and has taken the side of big business over the needs and desires of the taxpaying citizens.”
Apparently, Mr. May is hoping the voters and citizens of his district have forgotten his past actions in taking side with big business over the needs and desires of the taxpaying citizens. Remember, Mr. May there have been calls to re-call you and to defeat you when you come up for re-election.
In closing Mr. May the lack of leadership is not solely with Mr. Ellis but also with you. Now what are you going to do to take the leadership role in defeating the November Referendum? Fortunately the voters of your district will not have to wait 20 years for the opportunity to let you know how they fill about you siding with big business and special interest groups.
