Fourth District students can apply now for the Congressional Black Caucus scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $3,000.
U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson’s office says applications are being accepted for the CBC Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship, CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship, and CBC Spouses Education Scholarship; the Louis Stokes Health Scholarship and the CBC Spouses Essay Contest.
Johnson, (GA-04), district includes portions of DeKalb, Newton and Gwinnett counties, and all of Rockdale County. He is Secretary of the CBC.
Students across the district are eligible to apply for the scholarships, which are sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus non-profit CBC Foundation and CBC Spouses. The scholarship programs reward highly motivated students who are pursuing full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees.

- CBC Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship
Established in 2000, the CBC Spouses USA Performing Arts scholarship program was developed in honor of the late Curtis Mayfield to ensure that students pursuing a career in the performing arts receive the financial assistance to achieve their goals. Deadline: March 31, 2019 | Amount: $3,000.
- CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship
The CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship was established in 2006 for students pursuing a major that will lead to a career in the visual arts. Deadline: March 31, 2019 | Amount: $3,000.
- CBC Spouses Education Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. The CBC Spouses Education Scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees. The fund was established in 1988 and has experienced substantial growth. CBCF collaborates with Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) member offices who assemble volunteers to review and select recipients. Deadline: March 31, 2019 | Amount: Varies ($1,500 - $8,200).
- CBC Louis Stokes Health Scholars Program
This is a multi-year scholarship for all full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree that will lead to a career as a primary health professional (general practitioners, internists, family practitioners, OB/GYNs, pediatricians, public health professionals, mental health professionals, nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists). Deadline: March 31, 2019 | Amount: Varies ($5,000 - $10,000).
- CBC Spouses Essay Contest
Each year, CBCF invites qualified African-American and Black junior and senior high school students from the districts of Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Members to participate in the Essay Contest and Issue Forum. Deadline: April 26, 2019 | Amount: Varies ($500 - $1,500).
