DeKalb residents interested in becoming notaries public can attend two notary training sessions on March 8.
The 90-minute sessions, hosted by DeKalb Superior Court Clerk Debra DeBerry and the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority, start at 9 a.m. and at 11 a.m.
Both are free to attend.
This training workshops are also highly recommended for anyone who is a notary public in the state of Georgia.
A notary public is a person appointed by a state government whose primary role is to serve the public as an impartial witness when important documents are signed.
DeBerry said that it is important to remember that a notary public should perform their duties to the utmost extent of the law.
“Failure to do so could result in costly lawsuits and penalties as a notary is liable for his or her actions,” she said.
The sessions will take place at the county’s Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in downtown Decatur.
The deadline to reserve a seat for the training sessions is 3 p.m. on March 7.
