Colleagues of the late DeKalb Police Officer Edger Flores are hosting a blood drive in his honor at the DeKalb South Precinct on Jan. 3.
The American Red Cross will accept blood donations 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the precinct's Community Room at 2842 H. F. Shepherd Drive in Decatur.
Flores had been on the DeKalb Police Force for only 19 months when he was killed Dec. 13 by a motorist during a traffic stop. He was 25 years old and was a member of the county’s 110th police academy.

For a successful blood donation, the Red Cross says you should:
- Eat a good breakfast or lunch before giving blood;
- Drink extra water before donating blood;
- Eat foods rich in iron [red meat, fish, poultry, prunes, raisins, green leafy vegetables, beans etc.
Donors should also bring a photo ID.
